Free format support
Your bank's format, built for you — free
Our extractors read real-world statements accurately, with no setup — any layout, regional banks, credit unions, custom ledger exports. And if yours ever needs tuning, you don't work around it and you don't pay extra. You tell us, and we build a template for that exact format.
When you'd use it
Anything that made you squint at the extracted rows is worth a request:
- Columns landed in the wrong order
- Dates read as DD/MM instead of MM/DD (or the reverse)
- Debits and credits flipped or merged
- Multi-line descriptions split across rows — or squashed into one
- A scanned or faint statement losing detail
- A ledger export from any accounting software
How it works
Five steps, and only two of them are yours.
- 1
Spot something off
Review your extraction like you always would. If a column landed wrong, a date read oddly, or rows merged — that's uncommon, and it's exactly what a format request is for.
Every extraction carries a reference code, so we know exactly which file you mean.
- 2
Request format support
One click from the document itself. Tell us the institution and what looked wrong — a sentence is plenty.
Bank statements, credit-card statements, and account ledgers all qualify. Always free.
- 3
We build the template
A real person studies that layout and writes a template for it — column order, date format, how debits and credits are marked, how multi-line descriptions wrap.
It can be scoped privately to your organization when the layout is specific to you.
- 4
You get an email
Usually within 2–3 business days, we email you that it's live. If we can't build it, you get an email too — with the reason, in plain words.
Track status any time on your Format Requests page: submitted → in progress → resolved.
- 5
Run it again — and every time after
Put that statement through once more and watch the accuracy change. From then on, the template is detected automatically on every upload of that format.
One request fixes that bank for good — this month's statement and next year's.
What makes a request work
The file needs to identify itself
A bank name, a logo, a header — something we can detect on future uploads. A completely anonymous export gives a template nothing to recognize, so we'll tell you at submission rather than leave you waiting.
One request per file is enough
Submitting again for the same document updates your existing request instead of creating a duplicate — so add detail freely if you remember something later.
A sentence beats a screenshot
“The transaction date is the second column, not the first” tells us more than anything else you could send. We already have the document.
You'll hear back either way
Built, or not built with a reason. No request quietly disappears — and status is visible in your account the whole time.
Why it's free
Because it makes the product better for everyone. Every template we build for your bank makes that institution work for the next person who uploads it — and the library compounds, month after month. Charging for the thing that improves our own accuracy would be charging you for our homework.
There's an upside for early requesters, too: when your requested format is the one that ships an institution we haven't covered before, you can become a Founding Contributor — credited on our supported list, with bonus Professional access on top of your trial. See who's on the list.
Common questions
Does it really cost nothing?
Nothing. Format support is free on every plan, including the free tier. There is no per-format charge and no upsell attached to it.1
How specific can the template be to my business?
Very. Most templates are built for an institution's standard layout and shared with everyone, but when a format is particular to your organization — a custom ledger export, an in-house report — the template can be scoped privately to your organization and used only on your uploads.
Do I have to re-upload the document?
Just run that statement through again once the template is live — the new template is picked up automatically, and so is every future statement in that format. Nothing to configure and nothing to select.
Who gets the email?
You'll get an acknowledgement when the request lands, and word again when it's resolved. In a multi-user organization, format-request notifications go to the account owner — and the status page is visible to your whole team either way.
What if my bank isn't supported at all yet?
Upload it anyway. Our general extractors handle most statements on the first try — a request is how you turn “good” into “tuned for this bank,” not a prerequisite for using MatchLedger.
Bring us your most awkward statement
The messy scan, the credit union nobody supports, the ledger export with the strange columns. That's the one we want to see.

1Free format support is offered at MatchLedger's discretion while we grow our template library. We reserve the right to change, limit, or discontinue it — including introducing charges for format requests — at any time. Any such change would apply only to requests submitted afterwards: requests already submitted are honored under the terms in place when you submitted them. Nothing here modifies our Terms of Service, which govern your use of MatchLedger.
